For more than two years, the annual underlying inflation rate has been between 1.6 and 1.9 per cent, locked below the RBA 2 to 3 per cent target. Another quarter or two where underlying inflation is 0.4 or 0.5 per cent, meaning annual inflation at 1.75 per cent, will bring an interest rate cut scenario to the top of the agenda.
